Certificate of Couture
The certificate of couture is a course primarily for the made-to-measure market, typically bridal and after-five gowns.
This course is for students wishing to learn how to make formal wear in order to work for a specialist bridal business, or alternatively someone wishing to start their own couture business with private clients
Course Content:
- Textiles used in couture
- Corsetry patternmaking and construction
- Draping on a mannequin/model
- Patternmaking for after-five garments
- Skirt silhouettes for after-five garments
- Petticoat design, patternmaking and construction
- Closures used in after-five garments
- Finishing techniques and embellishment
Course Structure:
- 10 modules delivered online over 10 weeks
- 1:1 coaching sessions conducted fortnightly in an online virtual classroom
- Coaching sessions set at student’s personal pace
- 2 extra follow up coaching sessions after course completion

Resources Provided:
- Individual student portal for online course delivery and communication with mentor
- Step-by-step comprehensive videos of tutorials
- Step-by-step professionally produced workbooks, mirroring the tutorials, together with extension tutorials
Resources Required:
- Computer or ipad
- Sewing machine
- Patternmaking tools (as per Foundation Patternmaking)
- Sewing kit (as per Foundation Garment Construction)
- Stationery (as per Foundation Patternmaking)
- Couture pack (e.g. boning, bodice linen, fusing)*
- Detailed equipment list and couture pack (approx. $100) will be provided upon enrolment.
